Georgia Pre-K Program

Georgia's Pre-K Program is a lottery-funded educational program designed to prepare eligible four-year-olds for kindergarten. The program begins in August, just like the school system, and operates on a similar schedule of 6.5 hours per day, Monday-Friday, 180 days a year. It is designed to develop and master the skills necessary for children to be successful in Kindergarten.

Is My Child Eligible for Georgia's Pre-K Program?

Children four years of age by September 1st of the current school year, who are Georgia residents, are eligible to attend. Enrollment in the Georgia Pre-K program is entirely voluntary, and no income eligibility requirements exist.  When should I register? Due to the popularity of the program, space is limited and provided on a first-come, first-serve basis. Classrooms typically fill up prior to the start of the school year, so it is important to register early. If space is not available at your first choice of school, we can help find availability at a nearby location, or we recommend putting your name on our waiting list as space may become available during the year.

What to Bring to Register for Georgia’s Pre-K Program.

Proof that a child is age eligible, and a Georgia resident must register for Pre-K. Acceptable proof of age includes a birth certificate, passport, hospital record of live birth, green card, pink card, or Federal I-94 card. Proof of residence can be provided in the form of a current lease agreement or a recent utility bill with your name and address. In addition, all children enrolled in Georgia's Pre-K Program must have hearing, vision, and dental examination certificates on file within 90 calendar days of program entry and up-to-date immunizations within 30 days of entry.
